Christine Aspelund
Reclining Woman
Christine Aspelund’s sculpture of a beautiful, sleeping woman has been placed in its own, almost sacral room in the Vigeland Museum. The plaster sculpture has been created in a classical, figurative style with meticulous precision and great sensitivity to shapes and surfaces. The piece is low-key and reserved, perhaps even a bit mysterious, depicting as it does a woman sleeping on the floor in the foetal position. Aspelund has chosen not to give the figure any expressive features that would reveal anything about her: those who sleep give nothing away. At the same time, the sculpture radiates a perfect and almost hypnotic serenity. |
