The Norwegian Sculpture Biennial 2015
- Art belongs to those who see it 9. October 2015 - 31. January 2016 Welcome to the press viewing in Vigeland Museum on Wednesday 7 October at 14:00, and exhibit opening Thursday 8 October at 19:00. Norwegian Sculptors Association and Vigeland Museum invites to the NORWEGIAN SCULPTURE BIENNIAL 2015! This is the 8th in the series and the largest exhibition of three-dimensional art in Norway. In all, 33 artists were selected to participate with a total of 28 projects, of which three are art in public spaces. More than half of the works shown at the Biennial are new productions. The Norwegian Sculpture Biennial 2015 is organized by the Association of Norwegian Sculptors in cooperation with The Vigeland Museum. Curated by Anne Szefer Karlsen Artists: Gunvor Nervold Antonsen, Ingrid Askeland, Emma Brack, Nils Olav Bøe, Runa Carlsen, Leander Djønne og Matias Faldbakken, Marius Engh, Mathijs van Geest, HC Gilje, Tarje Eikanger Gullaksen, Danuta Haremska, Anna Carin Hedberg og Ebba Moi, Johanne Hestvold, Steffen Håndlykken og Ingrid Lønningdal, Toril Johannessen, Omar Emanuel Johnsen og Magnhild Øen Nordahl, Janne Kruse, Yngvar Larsen, Josefine Lyche, Matthew Quentin Midtskau, Bjørn Mortensen, Suvi Nieminen, Eamon O’Kane, Pernille Rosfjord, Aurora Sander (Ellinor Aurora Aasgaard og Bror Sander Berg Størseth), Runa Sandnes, Nils Elvebakk Skalegård, Mikkel Wettre. This years curator Anne Szefer Karlsen has previously been curator for Lofoten International Art Festival - LIAF 2013 and Associate Curator for Research and Encounters Biennale for Bénin 2012. She is editor for the book series Doublet (2013-2015), and was editor of the anthology Self-Organised (2013) . She is also active as a writer, most recently with an article for the anthology Making Biennials in Contemporary Times (2015). From 2008 to 2014 she was the director of Hordaland Art Centre. Public Art Matthew Quentin Midtskau's sound sculpture Put Your Ear to the Ground No. 2 (2014) appears on Frogner plass, and the work of Matias Faldbakken & Leander Djønne, Void two Void (2014-2015), appears on Youngstorget. In addition, Yngvar Larsen will show a performance in the Vigeland park during the opening weekend. There will also be arranged "satellites" to the exhibition at the Lynx (pavilion in Frognerparken run by artist Josefine Lyche) with works by HC Gilje and Emma Brack (see the program). The Norwegian Sculpture Biennial The Association of Norwegian Sculptors has arranged the Norwegian Sculpture Biennial since 1999. Both artists resident in Norway and Norwegian artists living abroad can apply for participation. This year's jury consisted of curator of the biennial, two representatives appointed by the Association of Norwegian Sculptors and two representatives from the Vigeland Museum. Earlier curators have been: Lars Nittve, Maaretta Jaukkuri, Dorthe Abildgaard, Cecilia Widenheim, Øyvind Storm Bjerke, Daniel Østvold and Helga Marie Nordby. The Norwegian Sculpture Biennial has an exciting side program which will run in parallel with the exhibition during the viewing period.
